The song –
Billy Elliot’s Black is inspired by the play Billy Elliot. In the play, this boy is hated by his family and people around him for wanting to pursue to his dreams as a ballet dancer (which is perceived as ‘not so manly’) and men are perceived to act a certain way. As black people, people around us may expect us to act a certain way where if you dare to do something different such as dress differently, pursue a different career or even talk a certain way, you’re almost seen as an outcast within your ‘black’ environment so… This time, Billy Elliot’s Black.

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind. ~Dr. Seuss
